    Phoenix dactylifera (Date Palm) has a slender trunk and is often seen in groves for fruit production. Phoenix canariensis (Canary Palm) has a much thicker trunk with a distinctive diamond pattern and a denser, rounder crown. The Canary Palm is more commonly used as an ornamental tree.
