How content is made
Three steps, no anonymous data scrapes. Every guide passes through a person before it goes live.
Players write or refine guides, propose locations, flag map errors. Anyone with a free account can submit; clan organisers and longtime players send the bulk.
Moderators read every submission. We check sources, cross-reference with existing guides, validate panoramas, and edit for tone. Nothing goes live unread.
Approved entries go live, tagged with the country and meta type. Older guides get re-reviewed when the game changes — meta drifts, and the catalogue tracks that.
Common questions
- Is LockIn free?
- Yes — every page, forever. No ads, no paywall, no premium tier. Reader-supported via optional donations. If LockIn helps your game and you want to chip in, the Support page is there; if you can't or don't want to, nothing changes for you.
- How do I contribute?
- Three ways: write or improve a guide (any country, any meta), run the browser extension while you play (it improves coverage maps for everyone), or just tell one other player. We accept guide PRs from anyone — your name goes on the byline.
- Where does the data come from?
- Community submissions, moderator-curated catalogues, and panorama-derived signals from the browser extension. Every guide names its sources. Map coverage is generated from real GeoGuessr panoramas, not screenshots.
- Is this affiliated with GeoGuessr?
- No. LockIn is an independent fan project. We have no business relationship with GeoGuessr — we just play the game and write about its meta. Trademarks and game content belong to their respective owners.
- Can I trust the meta info here?
- Reasonable trust, not blind trust. Guides cite sources, are reviewed before publication, and are revisited when the game changes. Players still find disagreements — when you spot one, the "report a correction" link on each guide goes straight to the moderation queue.
Reader-supported, kept free for everyone. Optional donations cover hosting and help us pick wishlist items off the roadmap.
