Starting point: apps/web/src/data/countries.json, the repository's community-seeded country freeze, which carries a drivingSide value for 246 of the 247 map codes (every code except Antarctica). Every one of those values was then cross-checked against public record — the side of the road a country drives on is published law, not a contested judgement — and all 244 entries in this file are attributed to source "public-record" on that basis; the repo freeze was the starting point, never the authority. Four repo values were wrong and were corrected: Myanmar (right-hand traffic since 1970, not left), Belize (right since 1961, not left), Burundi (right, not left) and Vanuatu (right, not left). Twelve cached Plonk It country guides under plonkit-data/ state a driving side in prose (Ireland, Japan, Philippines, Senegal, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, Australia, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and the beginner's guide); they corroborate the values used here — Rwanda right, Cyprus and Malta left, Cambodia, Laos, Taiwan and Vietnam right — and none contradicted them. Antarctica (AQ), Bouvet Island (BV) and Heard Island and McDonald Islands (HM) are omitted outright: they have no permanent population, no roads and therefore no driving side, and a fabricated value there would be indistinguishable from a researched one. No country is recorded as unknown here, because driving side is a matter of public record for every inhabited territory in the list; any country that could not be evidenced would have been recorded as no-info with source "none" rather than guessed. This map is authored rather than derived, although the platform carries a structured driving-side field on guides and REQ-045 prefers derivation: that field is populated for 4 of 26 guides, so deriving from it would replace 244 researched values with 4.
